Weekly #WOWfactor- Go for the Dream

Many people I meet share their dreams; but few are actually living them out! What is it that makes us afraid to pursue what we know we are meant to be and do? There are two deciding factors that come into play at this point!  The biggest is the lack of belief in ourselves, and the other is surrounding ourselves with those who don’t believe in us either!

To address the first one it takes making a choice on keeping your  mindset and attitude focused on being positive and living in your strengths and not your weaknesses. Sounds simple for me to state, but not so easy to do, is it?  Some things to review quickly are: what do you read, how much time do you spend watching TV, how many times a day do you say “I can’t”, how healthy are you,  and how many times a day do you laugh? Renewing our minds daily is very important and key to making sure we are valuing ourselves and following our dream. It also helps us to face and view the hard times, decisions and choices as learning experiences instead of giving in and quitting!

Handling the second factor will certainly help! Jim Rohn said it best: “You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with.”  Take a look at who you spend the most time with. Do you have 5? Do you know who they are? Do they know it? Need to make some changes? Relationships are so valuable in how we live out our purpose and the pursuing of our dreams. Take a look at your five: are they uplifting, positive people? Are they living their dream? Do you need to make some changes?

In America we are so blessed and able to pursue our dreams. Are you ready to Go for it? What will your world look like a year from now?  I believe in you! I know you can Go for Your Dream! The question is: do you?

Weekly #WOWfactor- “On the Road Again!”

mycarIt’s that time of the year, and we are getting ready to be “On the Road Again!”  We are honored to be invited guests and take part at an annual business conference. We could fly but as we love meeting new people, seeing business clients, catching up with friends and family, and exploring new places, driving is the only way for us!

This year we are starting out a little earlier, leaving on July 3, and will be spending July 4th week-end in Memphis! Can’t wait to see how Memphis celebrates this great holiday!  We will also be meeting our daughter, Wendy and Brian there, so will be an awesome time of catching up!

From there we will journey onto Oklahoma City and go back to my roots of living and working in Oklahoma. While there we will connect with business clients, see friends from grade school, see the plans of our next high school reunion (a big one!) and I have been asked to speak to a group about what I do and why I love it!

Next is the big event of attending a 5 day conference in the wonderful city of Ft. Worth, Texas! I love seeing what they have added to the downtown, meeting with special friends and business clients, enjoying the overwhelming events of the conference, and exploring places we have not visited before. Being from the West “I was country before country was cool” and now as an avatar of “Simply” Sue Speaks! it brings it all together for me!

Once all is done in Ft. Worth, we will wander back home with stops in Memphis, Sparta, Tenn, and Gatlinburg before coming back to reality on July 16th. With all the modern technology I will not miss a beat in our business, connecting with my assistant, our clients, and the professionals I represent! We call this a blended life and love seeing how we can make it all come together and enjoy the moments we are in at the time!  We also love how we have family and friends who will be handling the events at our home while we are gone! They make sure our home is secure 24/7, our plants are watered, our Lifetree Cafe is open on each Thursday we are away, and everything is ready to welcome us back into the life we are blessed to have!

How can you our fans and new friends join us on this adventure?  We would love to meet you for coffee or lunch at your favorite place in your area. I am also available to speak at your groups or do interviews, radio and TV spots! We will be traveling around 2500 miles round trip so I am sure we can connect in some way!  We will be in Memphis, Oklahoma City, Ft. Worth, Sparta, Gatlinburg, and all cities in between! We want to hear about what you do, and how you do it!  We have met with many in our past years of this journey, but this year we want to set a record! Contact us here at our website so we can set up a time and place, and we will be there!

Wishing each of you a great week, and hope to meet you soon!

3 Strategies to Give Positive Customer Service

EARNS MARRIOTTThe relationships we have with our customers are the most important assets we possess.

Easy to understand and take care of, right?

But do you?

As I travel, I encounter a great deal of customer service and disservice. I discovered 3 Strategies to Give Positive Customer Service from some positive and negative experiences.

As my assistant made reservations for my stay, the Marriott property had obviously listened to previous patrons and anticipated my needs. They asked,

–“May we pick him up at the airport?”

–“Will he want a ride to his meeting?”

–“May we return him to the airport?”

It was if they anticipated my every need. “We care” was the message.

My experience with the airline was totally different. Four out of five flights changed schedule. There were only two notifications—a delay due to weather, and a flight attendant was late. The reasons for the rest are unknown to me. I heard, “We don’t care. Get over it.”

There are patterns to your customers’ preferences. Listen carefully, and you discover them, anticipate them, and can ask based on the common ones. What you do with the answers makes the difference in whether or not they return and boost profitability.

Listen. Anticipate. Ask.

Mutual Benefit

I discovered the cancelled flight at the ticket counter. There were no more flights that night. When I asked, “What can you do to help me?” the response was, “Let me get my supervisor.”

Me:  “What can you do to help me?”

Him: “Nothing. It’s weather-related.”

Me:  “No vouchers?”

Him: “Nothing. It’s weather-related.”

Me:  “Is there anything you can do to help me?”

Him: “Nothing. It’s weather-related.”

Me:  “Do you realize I fly a lot, but will not fly this airline ever again?”

Him: “It’s weather-related.”

Contrast that with the Marriott, whom I called from the airport. She recognized my name immediately, and asked if I made it to the airport fine. When I told her my situation, she moved into action.

Her: “I have a room for you. Let me take care of this, okay? I’ll turn Ronda around on the van to come back to get you.”

Me: “Thanks so much.”

She then discounted my room rate below the previous night’s stay without my asking and said she was sorry for my inconvenience.

When you work with your customers, helping them benefit even when you obviously will, you narrow the backdoor and widen the front door.

Work for mutual benefit with your customers and grow.

Golden Rule

Returning to the Marriott, I was greeted by name, received empathy for my situation, and she found a similar room to my previous one. A complimentary glass of wine helped, also.

The airline booked my flight for the next day at their convenience which meant I set a 5:00 a.m. alarm. My assigned seat was on the last row—the loudest—and next to the lavatory. Had they simply asked about my flight or seating preferences, the engines would have seemed quieter and the lavatory smelled better.

The Golden Rule works. Work the Golden Rule.

I instructed my assistant to avoid booking this airline ever again.

I asked her to choose Marriott properties every time.

Which business model do you follow—the airline’s or Marriott’s?

Be positive with your customer service and grow your business’ profitability.

3 Key Strategies to Positively Win as a Team

march-madnessCollege basketball’s annual trek up the Final Four mountain has started.

While the school names change from year to year, the qualities of championship caliber teams are consistent. What are they? And how can you learn from them to win championships at work?

Here are 3 Key Strategies to Positively Win as a Team as you Work Positive:

Play Offense and Defense
Championship teams know how to score a lot of points and how to keep the other team from scoring as many. Lots of teams excel at one or the other. Championship teams do both well.

What about your work team? Do you play offense and defense equally well?

It’s easy in a challenging economy to play defense well. To cut spending and increase productivity so you get more done in an hour than you once did in a month. And that’s important to keeping the doors open.

How’s your offense? Do you seize opportunities decisively to increase sales? Do you shoot high percentage shots—think of them as lay-ups—AND look to put up the three-ball?

Who is an underserved group in your primary target market segment? How can you solve their problems and fulfill their dreams? When will you take a shot?

Sure, you’ll make a lower percentage of long shots, but the return follows the risk. You score faster and get ahead of the competition more quickly.

See the Whole Court
Championship teams understand their mission is to score and resist being scored on. Their court vision focuses on the current play and simultaneously beyond it. They see the whole court, aware of playing conditions now and in the next second. They transition quickly and effectively from defense to offense and offense to defense.

What about your work team? Are you in the moment while planning for the future? Do you see the entire playing field of your industry, how it’s playing today and how it’s trending toward the future?

What are you doing today to serve your customers while anticipating how to serve them in the future?

Execute Plays as Practiced
Championship teams practice to win and play as they practiced.

Former NC State coach Jim Valvano used to have his team practice cutting down the nets, replicating the thrill of winning the ACC Title and NCAA championship…which they did.

Each player takes personal responsibility for executing called plays successfully so the team wins. Sure individual stats are kept, but only the team wins or loses.

Does your team win as a team and also take personal responsibility for fulfilling a role? Clarify the roles. Practice winning plays. See yourself as a winning team.

As you play offense and defense, see the whole court, and execute plays as practiced, you increase sales with greater productivity so you leave the office earlier to celebrate your victory with family and friends!

5 Secret Questions the Positively Successful Ask Daily

SuccessWhile studying Great Depression businesses created by successful entrepreneurs, I discovered five core practices that were daily habits for them. They asked themselves five questions daily that charted their course to success.

You become a successful business person, also, by asking yourself these same five questions daily. The five questions to ask so you become positively successful are:

What Am I Thinking?

It really is all in your head. Your thoughts guide your every action, relationship, and sale. Your thoughts either help or hinder your journey through the current economy. Your business either succeeds or sucks because of your thoughts.

Positively successful people guard their thoughts religiously, insuring that they only rent space to positive ones. They place border guards around their mind that maintain a singular perspective: focus on the positive and filter out the negative. They have little patience with purveyors of negativity—think 24/7 news channels—and constantly feed their minds mentally positive nourishment.

Who Am I Attracting?

While success begins in your head, it bears fruit in relationships with customers, clients, suppliers, team members and others with whom you invest time. As Jim Rohn reminded us so well, “You are the average of the five persons with whom you spend the most time.”

Positively successful professionals guard their relationships like their thoughts, insuring they invest time only in positive ones. They have firm social boundaries that limit availability to negative persons—“Eeyore Vampires”—and focus on attracting ideal customers, clients, team members, and suppliers. They know it costs too much to do business with some people and delete their contact databases accordingly.

Why Am I Working?

Success begins in your head, and reflects back through relationships into your heart. “Why am I working?” clarifies your purpose and desire. Successful people engage emotionally on a passionately positive level with their labor. Their work matters.

This positive engagement fuels their imagination and frees them emotionally to discover solutions to customers’ problems in innovative, added-value ways. Such creative expression satisfies their “Why?” and furthers their success journey.

How Am I Doing?

Positively successful business people understand that the what, who, and why questions beg for reflection, i.e., “How am I doing?” The key is to acknowledge areas for improvement while accelerating what’s moving forward now.

Their singular focus is, “How am I best and strategically acting on my what, who, and why?” This positive focus is the clear pathway to successful achievements.

Where Am I Going?

These Great Depression gurus understood that once positive results emerge from their positive mental, social, and emotional achievements, the successful path requires sustaining. You must keep going.

They discovered that what serves them best is to serve others. They ethically acted in the best interests of their team and community, giving servant leadership to improve others’ lives daily. Gratitude for their achievements fueled their philanthropy.

So how’s your work? Ask yourself these five questions daily and enjoy success as you Work Positive!
