Happy New Year! Welcome to the first blog of the year here at “Simply” Sue Speaks! We are so thankful for a great 1st year serving you and now we are ready to “be heard and seen in 2013.”
How do we expect to do that? The key is FOCUS.
It is said: “the first rule of focus is: “wherever you are be there.”
That means to grow your business and accomplish your goals you need to be focused in the present; not living in the past of the “what should ofs” nor in the future of the “what ifs!” When you are living in the present it is amazing what can happen!
New thoughts, contacts, and actions all come without you having to be concerned with more than you need to at one time!
It was once thought that “multitasking” was a gift we should all have, and had to acquire to ever be successful in this life!
As a former “queen” (or so I thought and was convinced I was) of multitasking, I now agree with the following.
Earl Miller, a Picower professor of neuroscience at MIT, says “people can’t multitask very well, and when people say they can, they’re deluding themselves.” He said, “the brain is very good at deluding itself, and the truth is we simply can’t focus on more than one thing at a time.”
“What we can and learn to do”, he further states: “is shift our focus from one thing to the next with astonishing speed.”
Some of us can complete things quicker than others, but the goal is still to keep the focus on one thing, and finish all we need to do before we quickly move on to the next item on our list.
This truly is a gift to be practiced and practiced until it becomes a routine and the way we handle the many things we have to get done in our businesses.
Ready to begin a new year with focus as the key to it ending as you need and want? It can be done by living in the now, and taking in all that is around you, before you move to the next part of your now!
Hope you are as “thankful” as we are for you stopping by today! See you next Tuesday when we will have another “WOW” message to help your professional and personal life expand and grow to its full potential!
Have a great week!
