It’s an interesting week now with the U.S. The government shut down. The Affordable Care Act starts enrollments. And nobody seems to really know what all of these activities mean for Main Street.
So what can you do to increase sales with greater productivity and Work Positive in the midst of all of this dizzying uncertainty?
Here are 3 Positive Ways to Deal with Washington this Week:
Divert Your Attention
The so-called experts and political pundits really know very little if anything more than you do about what all of these activities mean for your business. So why do you continue to turn on their anxiety, confusion, and worry via the 24/7 news channels?
Their recycled recitation of hyperbolic viewpoints contributes nothing to your bottom line.
Divert your attention. Stop immersing yourself in this negative droning. It drags your attitude down into a dark hole of “You don’t want to buy any, do you?”
Divert your attention to something fun and entertaining. Watch Duck Dynasty. I mean if bearded guys can sell enough duck calls to create a TV series that has more viewers than American Idol, you can use a little of their “Hap-pay!” right? Or, call an old high school friend. Divert your attention.
Do What You Can
You get one vote every four years. Hopefully you cast it. Beyond that, you can’t control Congress or the President.
So what can you control?
Results.
Do what you can to grow results, primarily with sales and productivity.
Morale is the casualty of all of this anxiety, confusion, and worry. Do what you can to increase morale at work, knowing that results follow it.
If you’re the owner, invest some time in checking in with your employees. Ask “How’s it going?” and listen with your eyes.
If you’re an employee, show the owner a little empathy. She’s trying to figure out what the Affordable Care Act means for her business. Or, he’s pushing to meet his annual goals as the fourth quarter starts. Let her/him know you appreciate your work and offer to carry a little more of the load.
Do what you can.
Dig a Little Deeper
Combat the anxiety, confusion, and worry by digging a little deeper into your Work Positive lifestyle.
A customer will invariably gripe about Washington this week. Practice conversational positivity and say, “Well, there’s nothing I can do about Washington, but let me tell you what I can do for you…”
Dig a little deeper and throw a Customer Appreciation Party. Invite them to come by for coffee and a danish, tea and scones, or milk and cookies just to say “Thank you!”
Dig a little deeper and send a Thank You note with a coupon or gift card tucked inside.
Deal with Washington this week and divert your attention, do what you can, and dig a little deeper as you increase sales with greater productivity and Work Positive today!
